Bear Creek Spire is situated above Rock Creek Canyon and just a short drive from the town of Mammoth Lakes, Ca. This large monolithic rock formation offers a couple of high-quality rock climbs that draw climbers from all over the Western US. The two major routes on Bear Creek Spire that CRG guides are the East Ridge (5.6) and the North Arete (5.8)
East Ridge III 5.6
Climb either the East Ridge a dramatic step like ridge that rises from the col between Bear Creek Spire and a Smaller Peak to the Southwest. Rated 5.6 it is a long and enjoyable route. Or choose the Direct route (below), up the prominent prow which splits the North Face of Bear Creek Spire.
North Arete III 5.8
The North Arete is the direct route of the prominent prow which splits the North Face of Bear Creek Spire. A spectacular seven-pitch alpine climb with moderate climbing to 5.8 in difficulty before joining the Northeast Ridge to the Summit.
