Route of the Week: Molar Concentration
Route Type: Traditional
Gear: Single rack to 3″
Formation: Snowshed Wall
Nothing quite says summer Tahoe climbing like the Snowshed Wall. There is almost a classic nostalgia about climb great granite overlooking Donner Lake and the summit. Routes here are pretty spot on for their grades and you can’t beat the scenic views.
Molar concentration is a great warm-up climb for stronger climbers. For the beginning trad climber, this is a great first climb of its grade. Easy 5.8 – 5.9 climbing down low the gradually thins out to fingertips and crimps. Crux just below the chains.
Donner Pass Rd just off I-80. 1 mile East of the top of the pass on the East side of the pass. Park in the pullout and the climb can be found just around the right corner on the west face.
P1: (70ft) A straight forward fun and engaging climb. A wide blocky crack slowly gets thinner and thinner. A tricky finish on lead. Finish on chains.
