Introduction to Rock Climbing Alabama HillsCalifornia Rock Guides’ Introduction to Rock Climbing course is where it all begins. Our one-day or half-day Introduction to Rock Climbing clinics are designed to cover all the basic rock climbing techniques to get people into the outdoors.  Our course is good for people who may have climbed in the gym before or who have never climbed at all.  It is a tried and true curriculum, in 36 years of experience, design to get beginners climbing in the outdoors in a safe and fun manner. Our Rock Clinics starts with a quick introduction to the equipment and how it works to keep us safe.  After several demonstrations and hand’s on use of the equipment, the class gets to work on the rock.  We try to maximize the amount of time for each person to belay and climb so that they get the most out of the day or 1/2 day. The only difference between 1/2 day sessions and full-day session is time on the rock and various techniques practiced, more climbing, more practice and more fun.

Topics and techniques covered in the course include:

Basic Climbing Techniques
Belay Techniques
Lowering Climbers
Route Finding
